SCARBOROUGH FARE

A few days up north ostensibly to visit my aunty in Leeds but taking in a few things on the way.
First stop was Fermyn Woods to pay my respects to the Emperor.........

A bit further north to East Leake in Nottinghamshire to see the Bee Eaters that are nesting in an old quarry there. The views were frankly disappointing as the birds were quite distant.
BEE EATERS- heavily cropped record shots.
We duly arrived in Scarborough early evening and made plans for the next day,it would be either Bempton Cliffs or Whitby depending on the weather.
The day dawned fair so Bempton was the choice.
Obviously its mostly about sea birds here and Gannets are taking over, about 12000 pairs are now nesting here.Kittiwakes, guillemots razorbills, puffins, fulmars, herring gull and shag all have their own little niches too. There are gannets of all ages to be seen and this helpful notice board is a good guide.

There are photographs of all except first year birds.

The next day was spent in Whitby where we visited the abbey where Bram Stoker was inspired to write Dracula and did all the usual touristy things, walked along the pier, had haddock and chips in Hadleys, had a beer whilst listening to  a busking trio called Fat Medicine by the bridge.
